With an average altitude of around 5000 feet above sea level, the areas around Munnar are great for hiking. Different hikes take you through tea plantations, hill tops, grasslands, waterfalls and spice plantations. Most hikes are guided options except for a few DIY trails.
Hike up to the highest point just to the South of Munnar to get a majestic and unobstructed view of the sunset. This is a DIY hike and is accessible by public transport.
The Eravikulam National park known for the Nilgiri Tahr, a mountain goat and the Elephant corridor is just 1 hour away. The Periyar National Park known for wild elephants and bisons is 4 hours away. Please note that Eravikulam is closed in Feb & Mar for calving season
SUNRISE JEEP SAFARI
Catch stunning views of the rising sun either from Top Station (6200fsl) or from the highest tea plantation in the world at Kolukkumalai (7200fsl) after some pretty hair-raising jeep rides.
KAYAK & BIKING
The Sengulam reservoir is just a 5 min walk away. Visit the boathouse at Sengulam for Kayaking and speedboat rides. There's also a cafe at the boathouse. Rent a bicycle at our hostel and explore the areas around.
Care to take a dip? Visit the many streams and waterfalls around Munnar to cool off. While some falls are limited to 7-8 months of the year, there are a few that flow all year round.
Kathakali is a traditional Indian dance form performed in elaborate costumes and makeup. Kalaripayathu is a traditional martial art. There are daily shows that demonstrate these native Kerala artforms
SPICE GARDEN VISIT
Take a guided tour of the many spice gardens around Munnar to see and learn about the different spice plants and Ayurvedic herbs. Tours happen every day and cost Rs100/head for a 45 min tour.
